Bitten Clausen was born as Dorthea Emma Andkjær Hinrichsen on Sunday October 20, 1912 in the small town of Haderslev, Denmark.
Bitten, as she was soon called, grew up as the third of four siblings.


After she passed her exam at "Hadreslev Realskole", Bitten CLausen studied at the Domestic Science School "Gentofte husholdningsskole" until she went back to her home town to take up a job at the telephone company.


On May 13, 1939, Bitten Hinrichsen married Danfoss founder Mads Clausen. 


The King and Queen visited Danfoss on several occasions. This led to a friendship between Bitten Clausen and the late Queen Ingrid of Denmark.

From the beginning, Bitten Clausen was involved in her husband’s business. Mads Clausen supported her social engagement for people in need. Already in the forties, this became the beginning of social responsibility in Danfoss


On May 13, 1964 Bitten and Mads Clausen celebrated their silver wedding.


Bitten Clausen had to say good bye to her husband Mads Clausen when he died on August 27, 1966 at the age of 60.


As chairman of the Danfoss Board, Bitten Clausen participated in events all over the world. Here she is signing a contract in Brazil.  


In 1983, Danfoss celebrated its 50th anniversary. On this and several other occasions, Bitten served coffee to the employees.
